BrokenBooks

Follow a diagnostic-led way to run cleanup.

BrokenBooks is prelaunch, in use at For The Love of Bookkeepers with client-portal testing underway. It is not yet available to other firms.

Bookkeeping and accounting firms get an established QBO diagnostic process, with reports, cleanup plans, tasks and client questions built from the review rather than assembled separately. The engagement stays connected through proposal, payment, cleanup, CPA preparation and ongoing bookkeeping.

Who we’re building for.

BrokenBooks is for bookkeeping and accounting firms doing QuickBooks Online diagnostic and cleanup work. The two review services are Comprehensive Diagnostic and Financial Reliability Review.

It may be a good fit if your work regularly involves:

  • Assessing QBO files before defining cleanup scope or another professional next step.
  • Following an established assessment process with supporting records and unresolved questions kept in view.
  • Turning the assessment into a report, cleanup plan and the client information needed to carry out the work.
  • Giving practitioners a process to follow and reviewers structured results to evaluate.
  • Connecting diagnostic results to scope, pricing, tasks and client requests.
  • Continuing from cleanup into CPA preparation and configured ongoing work.

What’s implemented and being tested.

Current product work includes:

  • Firm-defined intake, retained client responses, and branded portal access.
  • Client milestones, action items, requests, uploads, conversations, reports, proposal response, and supported payment flows.
  • A built-in QBO diagnostic using uploaded reports and professional review answers to generate findings, a diagnostic report and a cleanup plan.
  • Diagnostic-led scope and proposals, approval and payment within the engagement.
  • Review-derived cleanup tasks and client questions, with questions posted to the portal as approved cleanup moves into execution. The firm performs and reviews the accounting work.
  • Firm dashboard, work hub, workload visibility, notifications, permissions, and project lifecycle status.
  • Recurring service scope, schedules, periods, generated tasks, workpapers, requests, close readiness, close/reopen, year closeout, and rollover workflows.
  • Year-end and CPA-handoff workflows implemented in source and still being validated as a complete recipient experience.

These workflows continue to be tested and refined before access opens to other firms. The presence of a feature does not mean every transition through the full engagement lifecycle is complete.

What continues to develop.

Recurring bookkeeping workflows are implemented but remain qualified while cleanup-to-recurring continuity and end-to-end execution are validated.

Year-end delivery, CPA packet/access workflows, and the broader recipient experience also remain areas of validation.

The Comprehensive Diagnostic and Financial Reliability Review intake and purchase experiences remain part of the prelaunch validation work.

Product updates will distinguish implemented capabilities, current testing and what is still being refined.

What signing up for updates means.

The updates list is for accounting professionals who want development news and launch announcements, with no obligation to test the software.

Joining does not automatically create an account, guarantee an invitation, or establish a start date.

Any future invitation should identify the available workflows and the applicable participation terms so you can evaluate whether testing fits your practice.

Bring the practical questions.

Useful feedback comes from the details of the work: a question that needs more context, a finding that is difficult to explain, a handoff that loses information, or a progress view that could make the client’s next step clearer.

Those are the kinds of practitioner experiences BrokenBooks is being built around.
